I definitely struggle with this. I need to have 10 things going on to really kick into high gear. If I'm not feeling challenged in my work, it definitely affects me. I would hold off on finding a new job just yet and maybe ask your manager for more tasks
Yea that’s a good way to put it. I’m really not fulfilled or content unless I can successfully chip away at projects in a meaningful way. Thanks for the comment
I used but now have learned to accept and enjoy the “slower” times because it allows me to catch up and only work ~40 hrs.
Yes! I’m so glad to know I’m not alone. I’m a Respiratory Therapy Director at a small hospital and it gets depressing when we are slow, which is often. I have projects to do, but I loved when we were really busy, I felt more…needed I guess. Also with ADD it is hard to stay focused at my desk all day!
I used to be like that but now I prefer the slow work as I can concentrate more and give my 200% also the time proves more opportunity for personal development
Maybe you could help consumers
Depends on your personal work style. Some people need that chaotic, overly busy, almost panicky atmosphere at work. It keeps the endorphins circulating in their bodies. Other people can deal with that atmosphere for a day, a few days, a few weeks, but then find it easy to put on the brakes and enjoy the holiday-like feel of a "slow" day at the office. Time to rejuvenate before the next time crunch.
Maybe you could actively seek out new projects, challenges, or learning opportunities. Maybe volunteering for additional responsibilities within your current role, taking on side projects, or enrolling in professional development courses.
