I would turn it over for sure.
1) I don't view my job as impeding all law enforcement. We have to understand they have a role and so do we. We certainly wouldn't say I'm going to try and impede them if one or our family members was hurt or killed. Our job is to be a check on the government, not at war with the police. At least that's how I see it.
2) you would only be conflicting out of one case at best and it wouldn't be a case you'd want to take anyways. Why would you want to defend a case where you're neighbor would be the victim? Sounds like conflict already but why would you want to create the conflict for the rest of your time there if you were successful.
