Interned there while in law school. Loved it. I helped prep cases for the calendar & even got the chance to stand up in tax court on some motions I prepared (simple dismissals, but a great experience). The attorneys I worked with were super helpful and even the judges were great. Was a great experience and I would definitely do it again. What sucked about it: extremely archaic technology & if I decided to pursue it as a career, the pay scales were not near as good as working in the private sector.
There is going to be some realignment in the next 18-24 months that will impact SBSE.
Right now, SBSE is the place to be if you want to be in court. There is much more litigation work there than anywhere else in the IRS Chief Counsel. And I know a few people who wanted to be elsewhere, got assigned there, and love it. Good luck.
I have no idea, sorry
Easy to switch between divisions. Just show up and do good work. People there are great.
Thanks so much!
Don’t work for sbse but familiar. It’s mostly small time litigation but fun as hell.
I’m also interested in this, and was also wondering how easy it is to switch between divisions (SB/SE to LB&I, etc)
