Hello! I’m gearing up for my year end comp conversation and I’d like to be a better idea of what people are making to ask for a raise. I work for a large asset manager and sell alternative investments (PE, RE, Credit, Infra etc) to RIAs, family offices, and multi family offices. I’m currently an associate, but am hoping to get VP this cycle. Any insight on what your comp looks like and how it’s structured would be super helpful!

What are some things to focus on in writing a cover letter? This would be for an Associate level position. I imagine it should be different than for an entry level role?

I received a promotion earlier this year from an Investment Advisor, AVP to Senior Investment Advisor, VP and moved from $110K to $140K ($130 salary + $10K discretionary bonus) all in. By meeting expectations in 2 pay cycles, the base bumps up to $175K + bonus. Grown in this role over about 10 years with the same firm, MBA + CFA; top 10 city and living comfortably as dual income household.

I'm interviewing with KKR for a Principal role in their real estate group. All online salary resources are all in alignment with a total comp of $200k+. I'm assuming based on the average salary reported across these portals for principal that those figures apply to the RE group as well. I have an offer from an Asset Manager in London and it is slightly below my expectations. I want to approach them for a joining bonus but was not sure if it is a thing in asset management.

Also what is a good % to ask for a joining bonus [5%, 10% or 15%] of the base salary
