It's not necessarily forced, more of an unwritten rule. I hate it. I feel like it's impossible for me to focus on what's being discussed when I'm trying to keep my RBF in check 😂
I hate it too!! I wish I didn’t have to get dressed everyday!
Honestly it depends on who the meeting is with and what the meeting is regarding. Most of the time they really don't seem to care if we have our cameras on or not. However, if it is a meeting with a big wig we will all know it because they will tell everyone they have to have their cameras on haha.
And you see I feel as though it depends on which department you are in because some departments never turn on their cameras, period!
I don't think it's ever been enforced, but people just tend to have their cameras on. So I guess it's a subtle peer pressure thing. When we started doing video meetings being on camera really made me uncomfortable, like it was just unnatural and awkward. Now I'm at at the point where I really don't care, it's become kind of a casual thing instead of an event.
It also made me feel uncomfortable too. Thanks for sharing!
During pandemic times when every meeting was a virtual one, all cameras did have to be on. It was a real sticking point, to where they were threatening to get you in trouble and all that. However now, a lot of that has slacked off and its 50/50 whether people have them on.
Oh wow. I can’t imagine getting in trouble!
During the pandemic, the company tried to force cameras on, but there were occasions where there were legitimate bandwidth issues sometimes —freezing, audio/video not in sync, slow in switching pages if there was a PP, etc)even with those people who were not remote). IT’s first suggested fix was to not use video—that pretty much killed video in meeting unless you wanted it (I don’t think that there’s much of an issue with bandwidth anymore either)
I haven’t even considered bandwidth being an issue! Thanks for sharing!
