Your boss sounds like a narcissistic weirdo (probably a 3am club cyclist). Just ignore it until they ask and be like i saw your email this morning when i woke up- you have some really interesting ideas and I’m going to focus on building on those ideas today when i get a moment. Thanks so much. Can I pls setup some time with you 1:1 to discuss your ideas. Do you have time right after this? He’ll be like I love your enthusiasm and be like I don’t have time right now. Problem solved.
Isn't it now illegal for managers to contact staff after hours? Unless you're in a 24/7 type comms role dealing with crises as they arise and then it's part of your job description.
Yep... if they're LUCKY my response is: "I just read your email when I got in this morning.
Though if it's a 9am meeting I'm usually just talking about the previous day (which ended at 5pm) and that i haven't had a chance to read their email yet.
My current team manager world in the evenings and his favourite 2 seniors start at about 7:30am so they have lots to update at our morning stand ups.
Unhealthy team lead lead to unhealthy teams.
If I'm in a positive mood, I laugh at them and joke that some of us try to sleep like regular human beings. That should be good enough for them to pick up on the fact that this is not appropriate.
If they've done it repeatedly i come out swinging:
"You sent that to me at 2am this morning. When did you expect me to action it?"
That path can be antagonistic but most of them crumble at assertive incredulity. SOME of them push on anyway and you just say no (and start applying for new jobs - you don't need these people in your life).
Learn to hold and respect your boundaries. If you don’t respect them neither will your boss.
