Ever had that sinking feeling at work? You crunch the numbers for your report, spot a colleague’s different figures, brush off your gut, and tweak yours to match theirs. 😩 Classic office conformity bias + social comparison trap!
Trust your analysis first. Groupthink often sways the wrong way. Verify before copying. Who’s been there?

Sinking feeling, sure. Turned out to be warranted too as I got laid off the same week. Can't say I've ever undermined my own work like you. Learned that lesson in like 8th grade when the smart kid I was cheati.....learning off of in algebra turned out to not be as smart as I thought.

I’ve had times when I second-guessed myself after hearing someone else. It’s good to be open to the possibility that you might be wrong, but it’s important to verify and not just assume everyone else is always right. How do you usually decide when to trust your instincts versus follow someone else’s advice? I’ve kicked myself for not going with my gut, but I’ve also been wrong before, too. Happens to the best of us.

I have absolutely been there. Matching others feels safer in the moment but riskier long term. I now flag discrepancies early and document assumptions rather than silently aligning numbers.

A female friend of mine recently received a settlement in a sexual harassment action against her employer during mediation. Upon receiving her (female) attorney’s final bill she was blown away to discover that her attorney charged her almost five times what the attorney estimated she would charge for the mediation. What you should do when dealing with a very toxic worker that keep on sending passive aggressive messages to you as well as in group chat and email.
Things like when you answer his question he respond: I know that
Or when he keeps on saying my change requests were just minor in group meeting but actually not.
And keep on saying how hard he works when he clearly wasn’t and already underperformed compared to an intern level.

How to not let this toxic co-worker not poison me any further?

Hi! I have a quick question and could use some advice:

I have 1 job offer that is an hour away and pays 45k, after negotiations (Research Associate Position at a University) .

I have just interviewed for a position closer to home and a base salary of 65k, but haven’t heard back from them in about 2 days (He said he would make a decision by yesterday and I’ve reached out).
I have to decide on the first offer by Thursday but I haven’t heard back from the second yet. Thoughts on next move?

I am seeking new employment, I was recently laid off due to lack of work. I would very much appreciate any leads. I have a Bs in Construction Management and over 15 years experience with Revit and AutoCAD and 7 years of plumbing design. I have solid references and impeccable work ethic. I truly enjoy what I do. Working remotely the last three years has become a way of my life and supports our current situation well, therefore I am seeking a similar role but will consider other opportunities.
