Yeah, the market is really rough right now. Companies are still looking and hiring - but I’m hanging tight because it would suck to leave then get terminated. Plus if I got terminated where I am, I have a good severance package.
Yeah, HR is a “cost center” aka no revenue generation. So we’re looked at for cuts early on - and with the advent of AI, doing more with less and lower pay for more work; companies are calling the shots.
The Covid market of high pay, abundant employee choice of offers and easy to find jobs has shifted in favor of employers.
Also I just saw today large tech players did even more layoffs. It’s not a great time to look for work - but better to do it while you’re still employed.
There’s risk in anything - keep crushing your job but keep interviewing, if something better comes up the. It’s work the move. Good Luck, you got this!
That's exactly what happened with our company. We're a non-profit healthcare center with around 450 employees, plus another 100+ contractors.
In April they started laying off mid and high level management. Our HR AVP heard they were going to lay him off, so he put on his resignation, so did your HR manager for the same reason. Our CEO is moving more towards AI and automation.
So now me and another HR generalist, are over our heads with all the work we have to do with little to no training. We're not as experienced and that's why he kept us because of our lower salaries. We want to resign too, but honestly there's not as much opportunities available. And it's us competing against hundreds of other applications with more experience. A lot of high level experience HR professionals are taking mid to lower entry jobs, just to have some type of income coming in.
