Assuming you left on good terms, and would boomerang to same firm / know the place and some people still around, yea why not?
I’d try to come in with some tenure - they’d expect more from given all the above but might get your at bat sooner which seems to be what your after
Thanks. I've been out of the firm for 4-5 years, and joining as a (sr) analyst would be a big pay cut.
I'm now in a different region. I have no real network anymore at my old firm.
All of that to say this is more of a second consulting career starting from scratch vs the usual boomerang after 1-2 years. Not sure whether it is the right risk/reward balance due to the natural failure rate of experienced hires on top of the current state of the consulting industry
This is just my opinion, so take it as you will, but I feel like the landscape has changed around jumping between industry and MBB. You have to factor in a level of risk of layoff or reorg that didn’t exist even two years ago. And once you are laid off, it’s extremely difficult to get hired again. Expect 6 months + at a minimum. So with the up or out model at MBB, even if you are willing to work long hours, moving up depends on office politics and bureaucracy that is out of your control. Just keep all of this in mind. The brand name is great and will help no matter what, but job stability with a defined path of progression is growing in value as well.
PS: my hours are roughly the same as in consulting
