Use a retinoid and exfoliating products such as AHAs and BHAs to increase cell turnover and prevent the ingrown hairs! Or a topical antibiotic like clindamycin (rx)
Not a hair remover, but better than tweezing
Get a facial peel (perfect rn bc WFH) and then stop shaving using a razor
Use a close to face beard trimmer instead, Philips Oneblade is great and very cheap
All in cost is <$100 w this approach
Get laser hair removal. Even if you don’t do all the sessions to completely remove the hair, it will grow back in a more manageable fashion and be easier to remove without ingrowns.
Have you tried threading the hair? I have the same problem, and I thread the hair.
Tweezing can thicken the hair that you’re pulling out. Have you considered waxing? That usually thins the hair and will probably lead to less ingrowns.
Waxing doesn’t cause ingrowns either. Skin condition and hair type cause ingrowns.
Get a pen sized hair trimmer from Amazon. Best tool ever. It won’t ruin your skin at all unlike how tweezing has ruined yours.
I had a lot of ingrown hair on my body. The only thing that help me was laser hair removal. Since then I forgot about my ingrown hair forever
I also get laser on my upper lip. It doesn’t do anything bad to my skin. They use different laser for face than for body, so don’t be afraid. Just be sure you go to the med spa. They usually have very good machines
I have tried 3 different 6-session lasers over the past 10 years. The hair always comes back in a year or two
It honestly just doesn’t grow. And once it starts growing again I go back to laser. Few sessions a year is usually enough for me.
But everyone’s hair and skin type is different. Just my personal experience with ingrowns and facial hair
Will the trimmers lead to 5’o clock shadow?
It depends. Some of them will depending on how close it gets
The brand I like the best is the one blade by Philips, which I think is comparable to the straight razor without the irritation
It will be EXTREMELY worthwhile
To at least use the trimmers until your skin can heal from the ingrown hairs
I also recommend a vitamin C serum (can get gotten on amazon) after you shave and before your moisturizer
Get laser hair removal. They know what they are doing and will not try to laser your face hair on a 10 (from 1 to 10). If you think it might hurt, take advil 30 min before your appointment. I'm also darker skin and it's been the best thing I could have done instead of constantly shaving or waxing.
