I refuse to say "no" to myself before someone else gets a chance to. I apply for jobs I'm not qualified for, ask for raises regularly, and basically do anything and everything in my own best interest. I don't worry about hurting a company's feelings because it's not personal. I think too many women are socialized to tell themselves "no". Why do that? Let someone else tell you no, because they might just tell you yes.
Thanks for sharing your story. What has been your salary progression with this method? Are you ED in banking or other field?
I've always negotiated for higher salaries and I am not afraid to leave a company if I feel I am being undervalued. I know my worth. I think that is step #1, proving to yourself that you are worth the money you're asking for and keeping that evidence top of mind when you're starting to experience self-doubt.
This! I left companies and industries when I felt my compensation is not fair and could improve
For me now at Sr. Director it’s always been having the conversation, getting told no or not as much as I want and ultimately having another offer. Always deal with it peacefully so you’re not burning bridges but sadly that’s all that’s worked for me. I’ve doubled my salary in the last 5 years from leaving and them asking me back. Jumping 4 level.
