Are you currently a senior? Or, is your shop the type of shop where they don’t have the ACD title?
Also, just went through these negotiations myself. But, it was external. I jumped. So, I had a bit more leeway.
But, think about what you make now. Then ask for a percentage raise you want that’s going to get you to the number you want vs. giving an actual number. (Giving a number is more for finding a new job.)
That said, when I was doing my research, I found the range is $200K-$245K for CDs in NYC. Try asking for somewhere around the $220K and under range—knowing that they’ll negotiate you down.
Also, if you’ve basically been doing the job, be prepared to back up why even if you’re a first-time CD on paper you may not be in actuality. That gets you a bit more juice. So, you don’t have to settle for the $200K floor. Good luck!

Totally get it. You’re asking the right questions. But, ask for the number you want. Not the number you think they’ll give. It’s a negotiation after all.
Plus, whatever number you give is not going to stop them from giving you the job. They already like you. If anything, it might clue them in on you wanting more. And, if they want to keep you, they’ll find a way to work with you.

Internal promos always shortchange you, but 225 is closer to where you want to start at as a first time CD in nyc.

Thanks! So a 205-210k isn’t unreasonable ask then?
