Honestly I kind of agree. I was tired of switching between a few recruiters so I decided to stick with one, this one having never been a lawyer/no JD. Was going okay at first but it soon became apparent that her lack of knowledge of what lawyers in particular practice areas do in terms of skills, etc. was affecting the types of roles she was bringing to me. From now on I'm going to stick with recruiters that at least have a JD and/or practiced for a while.

A3: oh you're right. I misread. 😅 Yeah honestly my experience has been that most in-firm recruiters are not great. There was one at my old firm that was decent but I think it was more that she had institutional knowledge because she had been there for so long, not that she was particularly good at recruiting.
I am working now with firm recruiters at a firm that I have a lateral offer from. They are working tirelessly to arrange attorney schedules with mine and have been amazing. Wish I could name them here.
Call two of them on three way put yourself on mute and see who recruits the other one first
One recruiter from a startup asked me what risks have I recently taken to that I gently replied as legal counsel I am there to manage risk and actually read the agreements so you are not out of a job
Some are absolutely amazing and some firms are losing amazing prospects by having inefficient recruiters internally. I stopped working with those firms and just pull from them now! We all have a short list of who they are. But, that’s another reason working with an experienced and long tenured legal recruiter is worth it because we can navigate those situations
