I think you’re looking for the “product” department
It’s probably just my experience - but the ones who talk a LOT (in a hog-the-mic type of way) and have very little to show for seem to be in the product department. The annoying leader who asks for things without knowing what it takes? That’s usually in product because they are the “bridge” between technical and non-technical. Whatever that means - they’re usually just a pain to the technical ones who have to run miles to fulfill their overpromises.
In fact, that entire department in every agencies I’ve worked for only seems to look at work that someone has done, steal it, and make it into a central product. At least within agencies, they don’t drive any true innovation.
I can’t speak for tech companies or product managers with actual technical background - all of which seem to be lacking in agency product departments.
Isn't the lack of experience a common theme for all roles and capabilities at holding companies?
I’m guessing the same reason strategy is suffering. people at the top don’t understand it and don’t care to. as long as they can bill for it, they’re good.
This! I have had 2 Managers in my career who didn’t know what I do every day. 🤦♀️
I feel like analytics in general is an area where people BS their way around.
