Low opportunity, cost is manageable (but has been rising in the last 5 years) because of the vast area you can live (like foothills, to Cap hill, to Centennial etc) it’s a sprawling metro. If you want to live to ski, and this year has been nonexistent, you’re better living closer to the mountains. Commute on weekends could be easily 2-3 hours each way, or you’re leaving at 5am.
Gotcha, thanks for the input! I don't think I can afford the mountains yet though...
I moved here two years ago from Jersey city.
Pros:
- cost of housing is muchhh cheaper than where I moved from. Depending where you’re moving from in FL you might find the same. Food costs and other expenses are about the same
- everyone is very into the nature thing. Easy to find hiking or skiing buddies
- lots of transplants, making friends wasn’t hard
- so many green spaces and parks within a short driving distance
- easy to fly anywhere domestic
Cons
- I’m already starting to get bored lol. Denver as a city feels a little dead. I miss being close to the NYC action
- public transport is bad, have to drive everywhere
- real lack of diversity, hard to find other POC
- jobs don’t seem as plentiful. I’m working a remote job I kept in the move. I would like an office job but have struggled to find anything interesting. The jobs here seem to pay half of NYC salary & while expenses are low here I don’t think they’re THAT low
- didn’t consider this before moving but international travel is now a PIA & can’t go anywhere without long flights
Appreciate the insight! Doesn't Denver have ok transit as long as your along the rail line though?
I lived in Denver for several years and I loved it. I would take Florida over Denver though, any day. I prefer the weather in Florida over Denver haha.
I might regret it though...
It's great if you like the cold and really enjoy the outdoors. I lived there for six years and I struggled during the winters. But the summers are a lot of fun if you like hiking, camping, that kind of thing.
How bad did winters get?
