For those of you that took 3 weeks for your honeymoon, did you meet your hours? Planning on 3 weeks, and just a few long weekends for other things sprinkled throughout the year. I just don’t know how difficult it is to meet hours in that scenario. On track at the moment, but seems difficult to recuperate 3+ weeks of hours.

Yes, and it was a slow year. 3 weeks vacation in a year is fine and your honeymoon is the only time people will let you take it all at once.

Taking my two week honeymoon next month. (One month prior to end of billing cycle). Thankfully will meet my hours but may not meet billing goal for certain bonuses. It’s tough and required several big months to “bank” the hours

Took 3 weeks and will come in around 2500 most likely, so no issues (but it’s been an unpleasantly busy year in PE M&A).

Haven’t honeymooned but have taken 30 days off in a year and still exceeded hours, wasn’t fun but definitely doable.

like

No.

Take the honeymoon.

Now she’s going to be joining my office too, im scared I’ll have to see her often and socialize

I am stuck in IR purgatory. I hate IR. I started off my career ten years ago as a deal guy. Then my firm asked me to shoulder IR responsibilities as well. Now I am finding each job I change to promise “you will do both IR and deals” but it’s always a lie. The firms just want a fundraiser. Deal people are more plentiful. How do I get out of this trap?

I need some guidance on this situation.

I sublease an apartment from a friend who is currently in Jail unfortunately. I wasn’t in the lease and the apartment found out from my personal check which I paid for the rent.

They refused the rent and after the three day notification has passed they refused the cashier’s check here in Orange County.

The apartment has put him up for eviction and I feel bad about this cos it was cost savings. Is there anything I can do to save this?

Additional Posts in Big Law

Working on some law firm applications tonight and it sucks that I know that I am so capable and have a strong work ethic but firms can’t see beyond grades or the fact that I didn’t go to a t14 law school or prestigious undergrad. I’ve worked twice as hard and feel like I’ve barely even gotten half as much. It’s discouraging sometimes especially because I worked so hard with pretty much no guidance (first gen, poc, low-income) to get into college and do well and then get into a t30 law school

Beginning to consider going in house (4th, corp) - I really haven’t thought about what I want, partly because I’m not sure what’s out there/attainable. Is it a bad idea to start by applying to a couple positions that interest me and seeing where that gets me? I’ll of course prep for the interviews but am afraid to burn potential bridges if I ultimately decline because I’m still figuring things out.

Anyone have slow months where you burn through a lot of your allotted pro bono/professional development hours to keep hitting minimum daily hours? The past few weeks have been like this for me. Should I be concerned (I.e., will this reflect poorly on me, come review time? Will I have dug myself too much of a hole if I keep burning my non-billable hours?) I’ve been asking partners if I can assist in any projects so I can fill my plate, but I’ve only gotten small (4-6 hour) tasks handed my way.

Mid 2020, I turned down an opportunity to jump ship from my small law firm to a big law firm. At the time I had 4 years of practice under my belt with managerial experience. I thought the offer was reasonable, come in at a 2nd year level, but with the uncertainty of the times I played it safe. Now I regret it. What avenues do I have, if any, to jump into big law from a small firm?

Big law literally saved my life. I was working for the government and being sued by creditors and in a deep, dark place. I wasn't even able to afford my Ube transfer application on my own. I've been at my firm for 3 years now and my life has completely changed. I was so close to declaring bankruptcy it's not even funny. I understand why people rag on it but some of us would be in a really bad place if we weren't here

Boomer. I am in between jobs. Laid off in 10/21 after 16+ yrs, with an ABA firm. RIF. Still on excellent terms. Took my time living off generous package and didn’t seriously start applying until 01/22. Made a rookie mistake and accepted first offer.
Turns out job wasn’t as advertised. Mutual parting of ways 3/22. Due diligence is critical.
Now interviewing a LOT. Some temp work, I still have “it”. I relate to all gens. Willing to mentor AND learn from all. Tech savvy, CTE from day one. Leads?

From a vault ranking perspective, is it safe to assume V100 is all sweatshop big law? Want some sort of work life balance and wondering if the “lower ranked” big law firms offer this? Could just be my fantasy though…
