I recently joined TCS but I was moved into very different project which was told during hiring. Also they told me for joining incentive but later after 65 days of joining they didn't give saying your business aproval got rejected. I really want to be with TCS but due to project dissatisfaction, I am looking for different job. I am not sure if I can leave the organisation soo soon(4 months) and it should not effect my carrier.

I was broke and homeless. Biglaw changed my life completely. Even little things like going out to eat makes me extraordinarily happy and thankful.
I feel ya and I’m thrilled it’s been such a positive/life changing move for you. Ditto.
Same. Same same. I grew up very poor, this money is still unreal.

I feel you, and yeah…. It has been life changing. Not worrying about money every day of my life has opened up a lot of mental space for me.

Thanks for making this thread, OP, it’s easy to lose sight of this in the day to day. I haven’t thought about my pre-big law life in awhile and this was a good reminder.

Thanks for posting. Glad it’s been a good move for you. First gen, WOC, it’s been life changing for me too. Love that I’ve been able to support my parents now too.

I grew up so broke and remember how I was always struggling with money in law school and college. I would eat the 50-99 cent microwavable noodles all the time.
I can’t eat Burger King nuggets anymore. Takes me to a dark place. There was a time when 10 nuggets were $1.50 my 1L summer, and I was interning full
Time with no pay. Ate those nuggets almost every day. Thank god for different flavored dipping sauces.
Chik fil A fries are the same way. Couldn’t afford the sandwich in undergrad, but the fries were between $1-$2 and kept you reasonably full.
Agreed. The career comes with ups and downs, but growing up in a working class family as a first-gen college grad, not to mention law grad, gives me such perspective. My first job out of college was $35k and my current pay is 6x that… Counting my blessings while I have them.

For sure. My family was somewhere between middle and upper middle class but I never really wanted to ask them for anything. I am one of 6. When I was younger, I played competitive ice hockey and now that I know how expensive that was, I've grown to appreciate them even more and just felt like I couldn't ask for anything else. Truthfully, I don't think I ever let them know how much I was struggling just because I didn't want to burden them anymore than I feel like I had.
Also former goverment attorney and totally agree.
I agree and it’s all about perspective. I always try to remember the days I was getting paid $3k a month as an attorney whenever I feel a certain way about my comp (which is multiples of that on a weekly basis now) as I think it keeps you grounded. Go for your worth for sure, but always remember what it was (and could be) to level set yourself.

Same. I moved to bl as a sixth year and was VERY broke until then. Now I'm still going to be paying like $5k a month to loans for several more years, but just knowing that I can afford to pay them off eventually is such an amazing feeling after feeling like I'd never be out of debt for so many years. Grew up poor and helping my mom pay her bills is an even better feeling.

Former plaintiff side—I was in an extremely hostile work environment with zero mentorship, working 2100 hours and still very poor. I was suicidal by the time I left, so big law actually saved my life and two years in I couldn’t be happier!

Yup…all things considered, I used to choose between my own meal and cans of cheap cat food for my beloved cat…and have had to put food back at the grocery store when I’m in line checking out with tons of people behind me…now I drink champagne and my cat has the best life and diet..my eyes get misty just thinking about it
