For those of you who are currently working remote, what would it take to get you back in an office job? I am asking because I just turned down an offer that would have been a 10K bump from my current salary but the expectations are for me to be in the office with very little flexibility. I make up my own schedule in my current job for the most part so I feel like the pay increase doesnt make up for the lack of flexibility

For me, flexibility is so important after working remotely fulltime for so long. I think I would need to transition very carefully into that kind of change...if I were to go back to an office job, I'd probably request at least two work-from-home days and then evaluate it after a month or so. Good luck in finding that balance!

If it's a run of the mill offer and I'm employed currently, at least 25% bump to my base.

The flexibility of a 100% remote role is priceless. The company or offer would need to be next level for me to go into an office 3+ days a week.

I like being in the office but I also need my flexibility but 10k bump is nothing at all for me to even give this topic a thought

I recently took a role that expected me to be in office with little flexibility (max 1 day working remotely). For my current company, it’s honestly a huge red flag, as they actively discourage employees from taking the remote day. They’ve said things like ‘we give you a remote day but you’re not obligated to take it’. This irks me greatly.

I low-key regret taking the job, as my previous role was almost fully remote and I really miss the flexibility. I barely have the time and energy to do the things I want to do.

The main reason why I took this new role was that I was moving from a totally different field into product management. It was the only offer I received, so I see this role as a stepping stone into PM rather than a company I’d stay long-term. And it helped that there was a 10k bump in my annual salary.

If you’re in a similar situation of moving from one field to another, it might make sense to do something similar and view it as a stepping stone. If not, don’t bother. The flexibility I had from working remotely was amazing.

However, most companies are moving towards a hybrid arrangement asking employees to be in the office on some days and allowing employees to work remotely on other days. This should be the bare minimum imo! If it’s possible, you can try negotiating this too. All the best!

No worries! Yes, my current role also sold me on the potential of being promoted within the company too, which persuaded me to take it. There were many push factors for me too, as my previous company had even more red flags than my current one does :’) while remote work is a green flag, it doesn’t absolve a company from its other red flags.

I guess it really depends on weighing the other pros and cons of this offer, outside of working remotely, and whether it makes sense for you to take it as a way to further your career goals!

Yea, I’m really only intending to stay in this company for a year max to gain the experience and then move on. Thanks and good luck too!!

How much stock do you put on benefits? I have two offers with stark differences in benefits. Job 1: role I want, but benefit sucks (2 weeks paternity leave, 20% coinsurance). Job 2: role is okay but higher level and great benefits (16 weeks paternity, 0% coinsurance, 5 more days of vacation). Total comp is the same though. I wonder if I should just focus on role but Job 2 is a large company, so I can move around after 2-3 years I’d expect. Thoughts?
