For those that went off work a month before due date (using CA SDI), did your Dr. put you off work on exactly a month before or did they give you any kind of advanced notice? My firm/HR knows I’ll be expected to be off a month before but not sure my dr will actually complete the paperwork until it’s a month before and want to give as much formal notice as possible.

Doctor won’t give you a letter until maybe a week beforehand. You can let HR know when you expect to be put on disability but the paperwork can’t be provided until the week of. That’s what happened with my two pregnancies.

I went on leave prior to due date with all 3 in CA. Depending on the frequency of your visits, the doctor starts to tell you starting around 34 weeks what the plan is. In the case of my first I knew by 34 weeks what date my doctor intended to put me on leave. For my second, I was told at my 35 week appointment that I would only be working 1 more week. With my last, we knew I was going to be induced at least a week before with the chance of natural labor beforehand, so my doctor had told me at 30 weeks what my date was going to be. In all cases I was able to notify my firm and bosses, but ultimately nothing was official until I had the note from the doctor. And to be clear, it is a doctor's note that takes you off work, the disability is separate (but they'll help you).

Also, in case you were unaware, CA SDI takes a long time! In the case of my last kid, I didn't get my first payment until they were 8 weeks old (at which point I'd been off work 11 weeks).

Read that McK is paying 2K higher than BCG this year which means BCG will probably raise again next year to at least match. However, they can’t just copy McK with 2K to match because that would look bad so they’ll have to beat it again. Then McK and Bain will follow. Barring a devastating recession, I’m guessing this means MBB is all getting raises again next year?
