What’s your take on why depression/anxiety is so prevalent in consulting?

I thought I was getting better (was currently working with my doc to slowly taper off my antidepressant) but my anxiety attacks are coming back. I think I’m just not meant to be unmedicated. I ended up requesting to go back to my original dosage

Looking for some mental health advice - I’ve been dealing with pretty debilitating anxiety/panic attacks for over 5 years. Finally started to get some help for it through medication, however the first 3 meds my PCP prescribed me (ssris) didn’t work. Because I haven’t deal with the anxiety it’s gotten really bad. Do I go to a pyscitatrist whose trained more in pharma or start with therapist. Have done therapy in past without much help.

I'll be 40 in five short years. I still feel like late 20s in my mind. I feel like a kid who just got into college. I feel like I just completed my first job interview. It's almost two decades since? Life is slipping away. Here I am chasing weekends, dreading every weekday hoping not to drop anything living the perfect work life and being successful in my tiny bubble. I lost my father at his 54th. That gives me less than 20.

Do any of you have days when you start getting rid of all of your stuff? I think of end of life ceremonies a lot, so when I see all my stuff, I get overwhelmed by it bigtime and want to sell it off.

How do you motivate yourself to get out of bed when you’re having an anxiety attack and just want to curl up under the covers?

Genuinely feeling subpar here. I can’t point to one thing I’ve done well on this project. I don’t think I should even be a manger to be honest. I’m not good enough to work here.

I have been at my job for 6 years. I’m upset about how our pay raise went and I’m thinking about looking for a new job. The anxiety is overwhelming when it comes to this. Different routine, different people, the thought of messing up, what if I hate it. I am comfortable where I’m at, but feel as though they did us aides wrong when it comes to pay. I’m very overwhelmed right now.

Whenever I have to put slides together, I doubt myself a million times and it takes too long to make a single slide. I know I have Impostor Syndrome and depression, and the longer it takes to put a slide together, the harder it is to get it done. It’s like I have a phobia for doing the work, but it’s my job as a consultant 😔 I think I fear getting it wrong, but I’m wondering if anyone else has experienced this and how they have coped? It feels weird to see people around you getting exactly what you want from life, and you’re here just putting in the efforts and time and waiting impatiently for your turn. I think I need to stop and let it go.

My ex and I have trouble remaining broken up. We’ve broken up over 9 times (9 times!). It’s dysfunctional, but we generally love being around each other and it feels comfortable. What to do? (Cont)

5 years post-MBA and all my classmates are VPs in industry or Principals in consulting/IB (some are even Partners/MDs already). I sat in the same classes with these folks for 2 years — probably outperformed some of them academically. Yet, here I am continuing to struggle with my student debt payments, hoping that “Uncle Joe” forgives 20% of it. I’ll never have that kind of earning potential because I didn’t come from the “right background” pre-MBA.

Often feel betrayed by my Ps when they question my work in front of the client, only to be proven otherwise. Happened many times and I don’t know how to change this - my integrity and work quality is questioned publicly and after much due diligence it gets proven that I did really good. What do I do?
