Ignore my title, I’m not junior anymore.
In this current climate, do anything that allows you to add a KPI you hit, to allow you to put it on your resume. I’m not pessimistic about most things but I don’t think employers believe in potential in junior talent the same way they used to.
They l want to know you can do the job, preferably with a KPI attached to your career. Even at level 0,
Even if you never plan to go freelance or be an entrepreneur, you can achieve this by doing things yourself, but you may have to put up your own resources to achieve this.
If you was a designer for example you could be like ‘my rebrand helped boost sales for this bakery by 50%’ or ‘my marketing plan that I instructed this business to follow when creating ads boosted their close rate by 30%, even though not much of their operations needed changing’
It might sound complete bollocks to someone out there but you just have to think how a lot of these companies think and just reverse it to work in your favour. And pray you come out on top above 300 applicants.
Also make sure people know what you do, using self promotion. Don’t skimp on networking, especially if you’re younger.
Where do you recommend getting these KPIs from to start with? Yes very true that people want to see results. Did you work on the agency side or brand side?
It took me six months to get my first real job after college. If it took me a year or two I think I would’ve had so many anxiety attacks. How long did it take you to learn a job?
I always had some sort of part time job or internship which helped me post grad
