Get a shredder to shred old docs or just rip them up by hand?

Don't want a shredder bc it's bulky and I only need it for that one reason, afterwards it'll just collect dust. But I also don't want to risk identity/safety measures

Shred in the office?

like

I see. Depends on volume I guess. I’d start with the manual way then go motorised if it comes a pain.

like

Agree shredders can be fun lol. But when im lazy to go to where my shredder is, i just tear em apart and throw the pieces in different trash bins 🤣

like

Multi-directional shredders are good as a measure of security.

Otherwise, it’s hell of a fun time shredding paper by hand. It’s a good way to silently exert frustration and stress.

funny

Do you have a local buy nothing group? Mine has shredders for free constantly and I got a really nice one for free! Or post an ask in the group!

like

Oooh most of them are on Facebook I believe. :( Search for Buy Nothing Project dot org and you can search for a group in your area/city/neighborhood and see how they run it and on what platform. You could also ask a friend or family member who is on Facebook to post an ask, and just give it to you. Some groups are weird about the rules, standard Facebook group drama lol, but as long as it’s freely given it’s fair game to help others find and give stuff.

I use my confidential docs as kindling for weekend fire pits in the backyard (though I WFH, so if you’re in office, please don’t bring them home). More enjoyable and symbolic than a shredder.

like

If it’s reusing you’re after- bleach the paper, pulp it in a blender and use it for Papier-mâché. (No joke, it’s actually a fun way to reuse papers in a secure manner, plus you get to relive a childhood memory for art)

I have one. I use it for confidential documents and sometime for ordinary docs. And yes, it's fun. Lol

I got a cross-cut shedder from amazon. Works pretty well :)

You don't have to carry it anyway so it's okay if it's a little bit bulky. You may skip on getting a shredder depends on the volume or quantity of the papers that you want to get rid of.

Have you considered renting one? Or going to a FedEx, public library and seeing if they have that?

smart

Get the shredder. It is a lot more secure (identity thieves will dig through trash looking for torn up letter, etc. because they are easy to piece back together). I'd also recommend in investing in a good one, the cheaper ones jamb easily and wear out quickly.

Amazon basics has a good shredder

Damn! Just waiting for the day I have a business so big that I need to be careful with the documents ☺️

Some Business Intelligence/Analyst roles are very data heavy. I wonder why these roles do not have the term “data” in them, and wonder if it’s to keep the salary lower than it should be. I have colleagues doing intense data science tasks as BI Analysts, and can’t help but feel indignant on their behalf because when hearing their job title, one would underestimate their technical ability.
