A week or two of waiting is understandably nerve-wracking, but totally normal. I wouldn't worry.
I do plenty of interviewing and while it is important, it's never urgent compared to all the other priorities I and fellow hiring managers have to juggle, so it can be tough for us to find a workable time. I assume it's the same everywhere right now. A good recruiter will manage the candidate's expectations in the meantime, but there are only so many ways a person can say "hey, no update yet!"
IMO send a polite follow-up once a week until you get a reply. If you send 4 weeks in a row and never hear back, then I'd assume it's a no-go and make no further attempts. Most likely the recruiter is just waiting to hear back with an answer for you.
Should mention this is my first job after freelancing during and before the pandemic, so I could be a bit antsy.
Was it an in-house talent recruiter? If so, I’d be patient. If not, the recruiter should update you on what’s going on.
