Lol my parents think I'm a fucken idiot
Immigrant here: I began working in this industry even from the mother land, always a mess trying to explain to them parents what it is exactly what I do ("so you are behind the camera and with the lights?" 😶). They don't seem to get it yet after 10 years in this biz, however they respect it. Now as a parent (regardless of the immigration status) I don't know how to feel about my firstborn enlisting into this never-dull ad world 🤔.
My parents were proud to see me land a well paying job with people I've become good friends with. They are not so excited about the long hours, constant connection to email, etc. especially now that I have kids. My fathers favorite reminder to me was what my salary would translate into hourly if I did the math. In his day, there was no way to be connected to work when he got home so he just doesn't get that part. I don't like that part either.
Immigrant from the Caribbean - all my dad wants ed was for me to study law or engineering, he to this day doesn't understand what I do. My mom could care less as long as I was/am happy and relatively financially stable.
Parental pressure is one of the unfortunate side effects of trying to live life.
My folks are very proud. My mom is a strong believer in the fact that there are multiple routes to success; and that success in itself is not solely based on wealth but happiness and peace of mind.
As long as I'm not on trouble with the law or living in their basement, they seem ok with whatever I'm doing.
My parents have no clue what I do
they dont know what I do.
