If you've been freelancing for years and haven't had to negotiate you've been exceedingly lucky, that's usually a big part of it. Anyway, sounds like you should talk to whomever you spoke to when they called. You seem to have agreed to something with them, so just call them back and tell them you've changed your mind.
Not sure I’d recommend that route at this point. Going back to the table may be risky as it could be interpreted as indecisive behavior and hurt you in the long run. You may be able to ask for a salary review in 6 months?
Depending on time since your salary agreement, any leftover budget for your project might have also already been reallocated. Revisit during the company's end of fiscal year so that they can plan for your updated salary needs for next year.
