Hey! Any Google folks know if it’s possible to negotiate fully remote if a contract role is hybrid? Personally, I don’t want to relocate and go to the office on a contract role given the current economy. Plus, I’m assuming contractors are the first to go in layoffs. I just think it’s a fair trade off if I’d be allowed to work fully remote. I’m also trying to have flexibility to manage my Airbnb business in a different country. Same time zone as the home office if I’d travel weeks at a time.

Six months later someone in HR noticed a discrepancy and duly informed my senior manager that I was put on the wrong band. Said as a technical person I was supposed to be earning £52k. I got an apology and all my arrears were duly paid. Guess what! Four months after that, during one of those 121 sessions with my manager, he said for my band, the company set the salary band for £52k - £86. I ran berserk in my head
This is a rollercoaster of a post. At first, I was happy for you getting paid at the top of your asked range, even happier when you got bumped up to 52. And then it turns out you could've been earning 60% more?? That's crazy. Did your manager say anything about moving your salary up within that band? Or are you stuck at the lowest level?
It rose slowly. A year later I was close to £62k
That's all amazing, good for you! I must say, you were working for some honest people. Perhaps I've been made somewhat cynical by life experience, but I'm impressed that a company caught its mistakes and corrected them. That's a rare thing.

This is one of the reasons I feel like salary transparency should be a federal law. I hate how they try to be secretive about it so that they can low all you. Its great that they offered you the top of your range though.
No, they didn't offer me the top of my range. You need to read the rest of the conversation in one of my replies to the original post
