Not crazy. I was laid off and I’m currently interviewing. Nothing like reading a headline about our government ending a life then putting on a fake smile to interview for a job. Everyday feels like the twilight zone to me.

Sometimes work is just work. Be thankful you have the means to put a roof over your head and food on the table. Donate some of that paycheck to people in need and causes you care about.
It’s ok to literally just “do it for the money”. Most of us do.
Just be grateful you are not also worrying about how to make money, on rope of everything else.

You're not crazy, OP. It's feels insane going through the motions at work pretending everything is normal. As other commenters alluded to, I guess having a job helps keep some of that sanity in check

At least it’s not Pharma. Or is it?
I'm working in pharma and feeling exactly like OP 😭
“Just be grateful” the sheep said as they stayed mute in the face of mutiny
SVP1, nice false binary you’ve got there. I’m sure you’d prefer us all to have to choose between licking the boot and living in a homeless encampment, but there’s still enough freedom left in our society to permit employed people to feel dissatisfied
Thank you all for the thoughtful replies - this is an anonymous message board but I feel seen!
As I’m sure many of you feel as well, I love my coworkers, I just wish there was a way to spend 8+ hours a day dedicating my energy/skillset to something doing more good for the general population and those in need than just shareholder value/a social media post that gets one second glances.
There is? Quit your job and change careers.
General strike now!!!
You’re not crazy, and you’re definitely not alone. When you combine having a job you don’t necessarily love with the state of our country, it’s no wonder so many people feel empty. I’ve been feeling the same way, but the job market is brutal right now, and I haven’t been able to find anything else.
Work should not be where you find your life’s fulfillment. Find that through gratitude of the small things, through your pets, loved ones, helping others…being a mentor. Work is just business and transactional.
You're not crazy. You're an empathetic person who feels compassion for fellow human beings. It's hard to be an empath and still be "productive' with so much strife.
I feel sorriest for the anonymous ones whose fear has constipated into “just be grateful” as if that’s ever been a virtue in our species, but will be the first to crow about the bold disruptive bravery of our craft.
We are all operating with far less emotional capacity. I’m just trying to talk to my team about how to raise your hand when you just can’t talk about product descriptions and ai impact in a particular moment. I hope we’re all giving each other grace right now, including executive leadership (if you’re reading this)
I recently had a freelance gig with a big agency whose payment structure ran on a weekly rate, which I had never heard of. It paid ok but basically, it meant they had total control of my time for several weeks, which kept me on edge the whole time (holding my boundaries where I could). It wasn’t like this 20 years ago when I first started at another agency. Shit got sloppy af, probably much due to lots of turnaround from rapid industry changes, thus systems being constantly built and discarded with every new recruit, in a vicious cycle.
