Had final round interview three weeks ago. Recruiter said GC went on vacation the week after and came back this week. I followed up with recruiter and said GC was slammed upon coming back and also hiring for multiple roles and would get back to her in 1-2 weeks. I know in-house can be slow and it is a small legal team. Do you think this is code though for they made an offer to their top choice and have me in reserve?

No. Small legal teams usually are overwhelmed, and hiring sometimes takes a back seat to time-sensitive matters from internal clients. So chill, it's not you, it's them.

Thanks. I really like them and am willing to be patient, but just had a bad experience in the past, which I think is getting in my head.

Update: they want me to meet with them one more time. The last interview they said it was the final one. I know it is a big decision, but it makes me nervous.

One final interview is normally a good sign. Good luck.

Maybe/probably not. Most times the logical explanation is the one they gave you

That sounds like a weirdly frank description of life as an attorney. I mean, I'd say that about being swamped to my friends and family and coworkers and anyone else who would listen and local news, but not to a prospective hire.

What I mean to say is, it sounds pretty real. Like that's how life is.

Sorry they gave me the job

H1-B transfer question

I recently accepted an offer to join a company (A) . They started my H1-B transfer and I received today the approval notice for the transfer.

However, I accepted last week a (better) offer at another company (B) and they will start soon my H1-B transfer.

I attend to tell company (A) on Monday that I will not be joining them. Will there be any issue with company B filing for a H1-B transfer soon?

What’s a fair expectation for my first raise? Publicly traded co with ~2500 employees. I’ve been doing litigation with the company for almost 3 yrs and have only had a 2% cost of living raise so far. Graduated in 2014. Base comp is $127.5k in the Philly area. I see salaries all over the place in this site and it’s hard to tell whether mine is competitive.

How far do you require depts be with negotiating commercial contract terms before your legal review? I’m talking routine low value and risk contracts (e.g., vendor services), where Legal terms won’t kill the deal. My clients blindly forward contracts. I feel contract training in my clients’ future...

For in-house counsel roles, does firm prestige matter? I’m in big law and on the cusp of making the jump to in-house. It sounds like the company I just interviewed with is getting ready to make me an offer. It’s definitely going to be a pay cut coming from big law but I do get some nice equity in the company. Is the jump worth it? Considering a move in-house to NBC Universal in any litigation role (though I’d really go to wherever there is a need, whether litigation or business affairs generally). Coming from 4th year law firm litigation experience in a variety of areas but mostly data breach, e-discovery, breach of K. Do I apply with an employee referral or via LinkedIn recruiter that reached out? Alternatively, if anyone has experience applying/at NBCU, I’d so appreciate general advice :) TIA.
