I wouldn’t order from either website because I don’t support unsustainable fast fashion, but if that’s what stops you from placing the order then I guess that’s good
I don’t order from them because all of their items contain lead & toxic chemicals, and the quality of most clothes sucks. Not wasting my money on cheap crap that will most likely end up in a landfill, and I don’t need more plastic in my home & wardrobe.
Precisely. Once I realized how quickly my forever 21 clothes (walked so Shein could run) were wearing out and how much more I was spending by replacing them, I started investing in more staple pieces. I also rent higher end pieces using Rent The Runway, buy items secondhand, and hit sample sales.
Sidenote - I placed one order from Shein in 2018 before it was popular and before I had ever heard of it. I got my items and liked maybe one or two of the items, the others were made with very tacky looking materials so I ended up returning them. When prompted to leave reviews for my items, I tried several times, but the website would not accept any reviews of less than 4 or 5 stars. I typed up 1 and 2 star reviews and the website entirely blocked my review from being submitted. I then realized that each of those items had hundreds or thousands of 5 star reviews, but if you actually read them, they were negative reviews. I kept one swimsuit and after a couple of washes (cold water) the elastic had stretched out, dried up, and cracked making them unwearable.
I’m really getting into the slow fashion movement. I noticed that online shopping was directly tied to my high anxiety and stress levels. I had a ton of clothes and other crap that I didn’t even really like. I’ve stopped shopping for fast fashion and other random stuff. I know how to sew, so I’ve started reading/researching making my own pieces.
I got festival clothing and some travel summer stuff from SHEIN that I don’t expect the rewear as much, but surprisingly the quality was good and I got lots of compliments so I kept the clothes for 3+ years now
