Has anyone ever tried negotiating for professional education sponsorship? I'm interested the Columbia CIO Program or the Wharton Global C-Suite Program, but I would like to leverage corporate sponsorship to offset the cost.

(my participation would not directly benefit my current role, but better position/equip me for future opportunities. Also, my firm is a huge proponent of professional/career/personal development)

I think the first step is doing research on your company's policies regarding executive education. Most come with qualifications and requirements for sponsorship. The next step is putting a detailed proposal together that aligns with business goals, your approved development plan, and how your participation will directly result in impact for the business

Find some ways that will directly benefit your current role, even if a bit of a stretch. You can also share goals of long term grown at your current firm and how that will also relate. Already being on board with professional development is a great step up.

Negotiate

I think its very feasible. many companies have programs that will subsidize X dollars per year for exec education -- the real question is will they fund the whole thing

Anyone have slow months where you burn through a lot of your allotted pro bono/professional development hours to keep hitting minimum daily hours? The past few weeks have been like this for me. Should I be concerned (I.e., will this reflect poorly on me, come review time? Will I have dug myself too much of a hole if I keep burning my non-billable hours?) I’ve been asking partners if I can assist in any projects so I can fill my plate, but I’ve only gotten small (4-6 hour) tasks handed my way.

Just here to say I’m so thankful we have this safe space. Additional Posts in Salary Negotiations

I’m interviewing for a marketing manager role at a company based in SF. I’m genuinely excited about the role and the company but we’ve yet to discuss salary. I expect to be asked at some point, but my research has given me a VERY broad range. So I’m here to do a bit more research. I’ve got 5 very relevant years of experience and will have an associate manager directly reporting to me. Are there any marketers out there who can share their salaries in similar regions and experience levels?

So glad I found this bowl. How do you go about negotiating your salary? I applied for a new role and was offered the job. But the pay we haven’t discussed yet. I never did this and heck I don’t know where to start.

Hey fishes, recently got an offer of 245k plus a bonus, but no specificity and at least 3% cost of living annual raise. My current job I make 150k plus a 20% bonus and an annual cost of living raise anywhere from 2-3.5%. Have been in my current position about a year. Things have been a bit bumpy (not a me issue) I have a new supervisor and was recently given 7 direct reports (I had zero before). The new position while comes with a significant raise is a move to California. Any thoughts?

I’ve been approached my by company that one of our large clients (who im currently project managing for) is looking for a consultant of sorts, and if they hire us, I’d be the first person asked to take on this consultant role. This isn’t something my company typically offers and would greatly change the scope of my role. Has anyone ever taken on a role like this? If so, were you able to negotiate a percentage of the consulting fee? Or was it a bump in salary during the project?

My husband just received a job offer on an opportunity he is really excited about. It would be great for his career and they are giving the 15% jump in base he asked for, however they won’t share what the target bonus amount would be. It’s an executive director position, so I would assume it’s a decent target bonus, but without that in writing it could honestly be a gift basket at the end of the year. Is it a red flag for them to not share this? His total comp could be less at this new job…

There’s no guarantee that I will be offered a job at company B but my gut is telling me that company B would be a better fit for me. Should I accept the offer from company A, continue interview process with company B and then rescind my offer with company A if company B offers me a job? Will I be burning bridges?
