Has anyone founded a start up with ADHD? What was your experience like with getting motivated? I’m concerned that I’ll lose interest quickly and start slacking off without external deadlines/pressure. Thanks!

My cofounder / CEO has it (left PwC btw, a preseed startup). Definitely has rough parts to it but he manages. Says it’s helpful to create deadlines for himself and create that stress / urgency.

So definitely possible. I’m the type of person where I’m great with deadlines and planning, but less of a visionary / creative. So tbh he’s a much better CEO than I would be. So I think ADHD can be an asset as a founder if you can control it. Obviously just 1 example tho, not sure other experiences. Best of luck and feel free to DM

I’m not the CEO or Founder, but I handle anything involving website development, HACCP management, repairs, accounting etc. for a small baked goods manufacturing company and I have ADHD. Made up deadlines are powerful. To add to it you can also tell someone, who will hold you accountable or at least ask you about it, these deadlines. Makes it more “real” for lack of a better word.

That being said you have to manage the stress along with the task(s), so you can’t put too much on all at once. It’s a marathon not a race.

Yes, it’s possible. I am not the founder (he has adhd too though). But I manage my ADHD symptoms. The real world doesn’t really care about what your excuse is.

Don’t worry, as soon as you raise funding you’ll get all the deadlines and pressure that you’d ever want from the VCs.

Lol! Great point about starting to work with investors and get pressured. I wonder if that type of pressure is always good.

I have PTSD and keep rocking along with a couple or few things in the fire. Sometimes it is good to diversify your career and life, like an investment portfolio, and make that work. Roo many projects at once can be problematic ad to time, money, and brain space, so may need to exercise self control in such an overall program. Rock on, and find the benefits in what others may see as detrimental or disabilities.

like

I have adhd, as well. I maintain fine, it’s not always easy but you just have to know yourself. I suspect if you do alright at Mck, you’re probably okay, but it does come down to you’ll only be accountable to yourself, which is one of the bigger things I had to adjust to. Feel free to reach out with questions.

I think being a person who has an ADHD brain is exactly who should begin a start up. Have a support who is neurotypical and understands to manage the parts you may struggle with.

By remembering that the entire business value and success is based on your and your potential cofounders output initially. You can even see it as a regular job where you owe effort and focus in order to get your paycheck. But basically motivation or discipline are nothing more than the belief that our actions can bring improvement to our situations. So I think it’s important to have good assessments of progress and plans. What can also help is using a project management program and specifying why the completion of each task is relevant and when. Generally only works if the reason for founding the business is strong enough.

Thanks everyone! You have all really inspired me!!!

Thanks for asking! 🙏🏾

I work with ADHD therapists from the startup which provides ADHD support with insurance covered services from our licensed therapists in ADHD. I think my case exactly fit in the question cuz one of our management group members was diagnosed with ADHD. I think the key point is to keep all things in a table, but also have the correct people to assist you as team members, which could be a way to support you. Check out www.hellomelo.co. They connect you with OTs who specialize in ADHD support.

Any particular segment of sales good for ex-finance? Currently 3 years in at fortune 100 bank on business development side (on commercial loan originations team but no commission/targets at the associate level, basically do credit analysis and build pitch books for the producers) This role has been great as I have gotten both analytical experience and tasted sales experience (I say taste bc I’m not the producer) but would potentially like to transition to a sales role that is less analytical

Hey! Any Google folks know if it’s possible to negotiate fully remote if a contract role is hybrid? Personally, I don’t want to relocate and go to the office on a contract role given the current economy. Plus, I’m assuming contractors are the first to go in layoffs. I just think it’s a fair trade off if I’d be allowed to work fully remote. I’m also trying to have flexibility to manage my Airbnb business in a different country. Same time zone as the home office if I’d travel weeks at a time.

Hi I have asked to be an advisor for a startup. Its in its very early stage pre pre-seed. Its looking like weekly strategy calls and possibly some executional work as well. Like building out a sales process and/or training sales and marketing team members (this might be 1-3hr a week of work).

They are offering 1.5-3.5%. — I am wondering if that’s enough.

In addition to this the founder mentioned that he would like me to consider becoming a co-founder.

Hi all,

Looking for a little help on developing a website prototype to test (app too if possible). I need:

A backend that allows for volunteers to add their availability hours (something like Calendly integration), short bio, profile pic etc

A front end that requires users to sign up, and then lets them directly sign up with the volunteers.

I looked at Wix online booking system but you can only schedule staff by working hours. Built sites on WP before but lacking in time currently.

Don’t get scammed. I saw an ad for vending machines that dispense hot coffee, from The Caffeine Dream. Sounds like a cool idea, and they offered placement of the machines for a one time fee. but I asked this “Chris Mateli” where. He was evasive at first and was rude when I had someone with my company call to ask. Eventually he gave me the locations before buying the machines which, of course, I couldn’t verify for placement. They had no idea about these machines because they never ordered them.
