I have. Definitely not the easiest switch to come back and definitely took a pay cut but being back in agency was definitely worth it for the work
It was boring and everyone thought I was the smartest person in the room which is always a red flag
Wholeheartedly agree with this. Maybe I'd go back years from now if looking for a slow and boring off ramp. But I did not enjoy feeling like the person in the building who knew the most about advertising.
I did but I am an account person - so perhaps my experience is different than creative’s. I found client-side to be too political and bureaucratic. It was no fun and truly where creativity went to die. However, I’m sure every in house experience is different depending on the company. I went back agency side because I wanted to use my brain, make great work and focus on consumer-led work. In house work I find because very brand-centric if your marketing team isn’t strategic enough.

I've hopped back and forth between the two. Agency had better/more exciting work opps. In-house had better work/life balance and pay. Depends what your goals are...
Cliquey mean girls vibes and the pressure to abandon creative in favor of new client acquisition. I got to wear Jordans but I was basically a suit. Everyone else wore Miu Miu. Hated it.
I’m literally contemplating this right now. Currently in-house and aside from the money, it’s horrid.
I've been in house for 7 years and have gotten the occasional inquiry/offer from old coworkers about moving back to an agency. Ultimately I prefer the pay and work life balance of in house. The work isn't as exciting, it's true. I do think it would be hard to get back into an agency without doing it through old coworkers.
