Hi! Might sound simple but earplug does the trick for me (almost) and I do close the door on days when I feel that I need it more or for assignment that are urgent or complexe.
I know someone who put a sign on his door inviting people to knock. He puts it up to let them know he's not on the phone etc.
Also, I recently bought the apple pro earphone and they have a noise canceling fonction that work very well even with no music and the feeling is very satisfying.
I have a Dohm white noise machine in my home office. I figured it might come across as a bit weird in my office-office, so I got a freestanding air purifier (that’s actually not too loud) and put another Dohm sort of behind it so that it just sounds like the fan of the purifier. You can adjust the tonality of the noise pretty easily so I can find the “right” tone for a particular day.

Interesting. Thanks for sharing!

I am a solo, but when I worked at a firm I also listened to music with earbuds. However, that was also seen as anti-social. I’m not sure that would be the case anywhere, though.
There are noise dampening earplugs, but I have not tried them. Loop makes some. They are supposed to let you hear, but reduce the noise.
I use a sound-canceling headset (thank you, Zoom and Teams meetings!) and I also rely on natural light instead of the fluorescents in my office. The combination seems to help a lot so that I don’t need to close the door.
