Above average movie, good in the sense it brings African Americans to the foreground in the context of a very profitable part of the industry, on a deeper analysis still reflects the world as seen through the western lens -- and so lacks the courage to imagine a completely different direction of development for an isolated African nation, instead opting for a society with futuristic western-like devices mixed with stereotypical trappings of underdevelopment (people carrying things in jars, busy/dirty market streets, important decisions made by combat)
A missed opportunity to truly imagine the potential Africa could develop without colonial interference.
African stereotypes aren't "diversity" except in the minds of privileged sheltered white people
Both
Agreed both
Blade was better
Both!
It is significant as it has a bigger underlying message and the timing was right . But on its own, it’s the usual marvel affair. Deadpool was a bigger risk I think , in the superhero genre
Neither. It was generic action crap and seemed like a very "white people" stereotype of Africa. You've got people fighting with literal zulu spears FFS.
I thought it was above average. Badass / interesting hero. The motive of the villain was more flushed out than in typical marvel movies, and the African motifs were cool. The final fight was pretty crappy though and had bad CGI.
I thought it was good. I think it was overhyped due to its diversity aspects though.
Good movie, great step for diversity
