Yes! Coffees and lunches with friends, yoga and walks, but mostly puttering around the house all day trying and failing to stay on top of laundry, cooking, tidying, taking kids to the pool after camp, etc. I’m also involved with some volunteer things at the kids’ school and in my community. I read, watch tv. Honestly looking after the kids, my husband, and the house keeps me quite busy.
If your kids are young, you’ll be busy enough just being a SAHM. If they’re going to school you get a few hours but still need to clean, cook, plan, etc so I didn’t have much time beyond coffee/lunch meet ups and working out. A Pilates class in the middle of the day was marvelous lol
I had 6 months after a 6 month maternity leave due to moving to another country temporarily for husband’s job and it was great, but extremely exhausting. I loved the extra time with my kids, though.
Oh 100%. I was lucky to get 6mos but honestly 1 year should be the default!
You can look for flex jobs/contract work, but also volunteer at your kids’ school for committee work (development, enrollment, etc.—not just PTA) and/or get on some boards of charities
