I’ve put myself up for L4 promo this cycle. Assuming I get it, what would be the best next steps to optimize for long-term growth/TC?
My understanding is that L5->L6 is extremely painful at Google. It may be easier to leave for a handful of years and gain managerial experience before returning.
L4->L5 is less challenging; however, I’m under the impression I can do this quicker at another company (if I leave after being freshly promo’d) AND get higher TC.

Definitely not a coffin nail. I haven't taught screenwriting, but I have taught creative writing and journalism classes to help make ends meet. My thought on that is that those with the knowledge and talent and experience to mold a new generation of writers are the frontline soldiers protecting the English language. If I can't use my decades of experience to "pass the torch to a new generation," then it truly has been a wasted life.
I find that every single time I’m engaged in teacher people younger than I am, I learn just as much or more than I teach. Some of its fresh ideas. Some of it is learning new trends and tech. And some of it is re-learning what I had forgotten I’d learned so many years ago. Now you have me thinking I may want to carve out some time for teaching on a regular basis😂
