From my experience, kids progress at their own pace. At 2, my son was socially awkward and barely spoke. Along with being patient with him, we were blessed to have put him in a very engaging and wonderful daycare when he turned 3 as my wife went back to work. Once he started socializing with the other kids he improved my leaps and bounds. He's 7 now and doing very well at school.
Be patient and don't listen to too much outside chatter. As long as he is happy and loved, he'll be fine. At least that's what I believe from personal experience of my own kids and my nephews and nieces..
Agree with this a 100%. However, if you child qualifies, the early intervention program the state offers is pretty great. My kid was speaking very little when we started this for him, we had the same scares as you probably do. 3 months into the program and with constant attention from us, he showed significant progress. 6 months later, we stopped the classes as he had already caught up and even doing better than we’d expected. He is 3 now and doing great with his peers. He won’t stop talking.
My daughter hadnt really talked until close to 3. Now at 5, I can't get her to stop yapping! She had some developmental delays due to some early health issues and major surgeries , but has all caught up.
Definitely suggest putting them through a preschool that allows them to explore and play with others, as that was the catalyst to get her to communicate.
My son was diagnosed with autism earlier this year. I initially hated seeing how low he scores on these tests. Now I just say F it … I’m getting him the help he needs and he’ll progress at his own pace. Just take action/early intervention.
Very insightful thanks!
