I last taught The Crucible nearly 30 years ago & showed Three Sovereigns for Sarah, it’s by PBS & AMAZING but REALLY long.
Yes, Arthur Miller wrote the screenplay to the film version of The Crucible which stars Daniel Day Lewis. Using it or parts of it after reading a section of the play can offer your students an excellent opportunity to discuss audiences and mediums and how they influence writer’s work.
Also you can pull in how context changes what audiences expect in entertainment by contrasting values in the 50’s when the play was written and in the 90’s when the film was produced.
The Daniel Day-Lewis version has been my go-to for years. Arthur Miller wrote the screenplay, so it can be fun to discuss why he implemented certain changes in the movie.
I have shown the 1996 version and my students liked it. Just remember there is a little bit of nudity in it.
