Can you name some of these shows? I feel like prison is usually a terrible, violent, place in most media depictions
Agreed, they glamorize our own jobs as well, doesn't help with public perception all the time either
TV shows like "Orange is the New Black" and "Prison Break" are glamorizing prison life and making it seem like something that is desirable. This is not the case - prison is something that should be avoided in one's life if possible. It is not a pretty or nice place, and the conditions are often very harsh.
I have watched Orange is the New Black and I have to say, I did enjoy it because I don't think it was glamorizing prison life at all? If anything, it made you feel bad for the characters, because even if some of them had questionable pasts, some of them were there over misunderstandings or simple human mistakes.
There is a stupid fashion in demolishing the world we live in by showing that what is bad is not so bad, a series about prisons that is a total joke is the orange is the new black.
I work as a guard in a women's prison, and this is nothing like OITNB, this is a jungle where the strongest survive and rule, it is unfortunate but there is very little that we as guards can do for them, it is incredible to see Like a woman who comes in for a minor crime, she comes out of jail a complete criminal, and soon she's back in prison for a worse reason than the first.
Yeah, definitely not something to glamourize. I think it's because there's an air of mystique since most people never see inside of a prison except on TV, and the media is very selective in what they show people. It's not all made up, but it's definitely biased towards whatever agenda they want to promote.
Lots of kids enter our facility thinking they're tough and they're going to forge alliances with others in the same gang. That's very far from the truth. It's every criminal for themselves. I'd like it if TV shows were more realistic in what they project to the public, especially kids.
