Have you ever taken a lateral move to grow your career? If so, did it come with a raise My company doesn’t have much upward mobility right now, so I’ve been thinking about making a lateral move. I’m around the midpoint salary-wise for my level, so part of me is hoping for maybe a 7–10% bump… but I’m not sure if that’s realistic or just wishful thinking.

My best move was taking a pay cut from manager with no direct reports to manager with 4 at a smaller company. I left for a $15k pay cut but in 3 years was 40% more than my prior role and Director level. Usually growth > $ unless it’s equity

Considering current scenario, at least you still got a well paid job.

I haven't, but I have a friend who did recently. She was pretty upset though because her comp stayed the same. I don't think lateral moves often come with more pay.

Usually a lateral move doesn’t change pay.

Random question for anyone who has ever exchanged/gotten a replacement away travel suitcase. Is there any flexibility to get a different color? My interior zipper broke and I stopped in a store to ask if they do repairs and they said to bring it in and they’ll just replace it. I wouldn’t hate switching the color but feel weird asking for some reason

Which offer should I accept? Currently staff 2 at big 4 in Tax with CPA license. I want to leave tax ASAP. Both are public companies +1B in revenue and same salary. Offer 1 - staff revenue accountant so reading contracts, speaking with the sales team and legal team, a lot of work at the end of the months to close books and reconcile transactions to make sure we are ASC 606 compliant. This track usually leads to director of revenue. Offer 2 - internal audit staff so SOX and compliance projects.

Burnout is because you did something consistently for an extended period. You can do quick fixes like go on vacation, get some sleep, exercise more. But they may only help temporarily, depending on your level of Burnout.

Try adjusting your approach to work / life to a more sustainable, and ideally, enjoyable balance.

Do you have advice on how to interview better with Amazon?

My résumé and portfolio are great, and I’ve been asked to interview with Amazon for 4 different teams now. However, it seems like I’m not making it past the first 1:1 interview. 3 out of 4 have resulted in not the right fit for reasons unknown; they don’t provide any feedback either. I have been invited for a new interview today with another team, and I am hoping 4th time is the charm. Any tips on how to do better next time?

Just found out that end of the year I will be promoted from analyst directly to VP and since it’s such a large jump I’ll be the lowest paid VP in asset management at only $135k TC. Should I stay it out and wait for TC to align or take the promotion and jump ship bc I will likely get paid more elsewhere given how recruiters/other companies eat up hiring recently promoted ppl from other firms?
