I’ve seen people take that trade and it really depends on what you’re getting out of it. If it meaningfully builds skills or sets you up for a better role later, it can be worth it. But if it’s just more work with no clear upside, it’s a tougher sell. Kind of comes down to whether it actually moves you forward or just keeps you busy.

Any move in role comes with risk. But generally, lateral moves are good as long as your treat it as an opportunity to learn and gain experience. I would find someone in the next 'upward' role you want and ask if this lateral move will help you or be of no consequence.
