Hi all! I have a 45 minute screening interview at Facebook (Meta) next week for their Product Development Specialist position. Does anyone have any advice on what I can expect? In particular, I was told there would be a case study question at the end of the interview. Any advice or insight is appreciated!

Squeaky wheel gets the grease. It’s something that has crossed my mind, being agreeable and not saying much does get me a lot more work, and not much else to show for it. Trying to stop doing that so much, but kind of feel like I boxed myself in.

I feel the same way. I’m always trying to show that I’m a tan player and willing to learn. But, am still told I’m lacking somewhere else. I feel they do that to keep me down because most of the other things aren’t really significant things.
Happens a lot.. usually only fix is a job change

I just wonder sometimes that if we pushed back more, would that be a benefit or detrimental to our job.
There a balance if you always say no you’re not going to get a raise either.
You should be focused on saying yes to high impact/ visibility projects. You also need to be your biggest supporter keep a list of things you do for promotion talks. Being it up during 1on1s with your direct manager, drop clues in convos with your managers manager, etc.

Thanks for that encouraging message. I’d say, yes, it’s a balance, I suppose.
I'm certain being overly agreeable is a downfall. That being said, I am very much this way and while I know I can (and probably should) be earning more, I still think my salary is fair and give the same amount of effort despite what my salary is. Is that wrong? In some eyes, yes, but it works for me. I don't think it's always about squeezing every possible penny you can from an employer.
I never really viewed being content with my salary as a negative chain reaction affecting other employees. I just figured employees wanting more are going to speak up and get it, but you're challenging my thoughts on that a bit. TBH, it makes sense, but no one has ever made that point to me before.
That’s exactly how I feel right now! I feel like I dedicate so much and I’m so reliable when it comes to work that’s it’s becoming a crutch on my life. The pay could be better for the performance and dedication I give to the work place

It’s frustrating for sure. I hope it gets better for the both of us.
Jordan Peterson cites that exact thing when people discuss the gender pay gap. I'm not here to discuss whether it exists, I won't be entertaining comments discussing that.
I'm just saying that when Jordan Peterson was asked about it, he specifically said that one of the reasons was because women are far more agreeable. Less likely to ask for that payrise, less likely to say no to working late, more likely to not negotiate.
It'll be on YouTube somewhere.

I’ve heard many times that women negotiate less. Probably true. Thanks
Interesting, but your thought 🤔 is very plausible as nice guys get taken advantage of and pushed around and stepped on and, plus as your giving more and more they're taking more and more, so why on earth are you giving so much ?

Good question. It’s probably because of being taught growing up that giving more is part of work ethic. And assuming it’ll bring good and better things.

I definitely did this earlier in my career. It wasn’t until my late 30s and felt more comfortable advocating for myself that I deserved more. I’m working at my 11th company and have left every 2-3 years if I didn’t feel like I was getting the growth or recognition I deserved. If you’re underpaid you can always leave and likely find a better paying job.

Oh wow. Was the move truly beneficial to your salary? Did it boost it? I am always too afraid I’ll find something worse. Environment-wise, like mean coworkers.
I do…wondering how to fix it if I even can
Absolutely not! If anything it’s the exact opposite where I work. I have watched for years the quiet, agreeable ones who put no effort to learn anything new, never volunteer for assignments or ever question the process get moved up the most. Therefore, always making more money than the ones that actually have ideas, go out of their way to help, learn new things and yes question why things are done a certain way when they don’t work!
