Have you ever wondered why feedback in hiring processes is often so brief and general? I have realized that even when more detailed insight could help, there is a risk of it being misinterpreted or affecting future opportunities. It made me understand that hiring decisions are not always about guiding candidates but also about protecting the company. Why do you think meaningful feedback is still so rare in hiring processes?

Why is there a desire for feedback? I've been in the workforce for 30+ years and only recently, like last 5 or 6 years, is this even a thing and I find it odd AF. Aren't some thing just implicit? If I didn't get the position then there is something they didn't kike about me, as simple as that. I'm just not sure what else is needed? Those of you who find this valuable I ask are you doing the same in other aspects of life? Like do you go on first dates and then ask that person for feedback after not hearing back from them?

like

I get where you're coming from, but a job search isn't a first date, it's weeks of effort.

The jobs I have been seeing on LinkedIn generally have between 400-500 applicants within a day or two. There is no way to provide meaningful feedback to several hundred people for each position. Now after the screening call plus the first round of actual interviews, I believe there should be some feedback. I recognize there are still a lot of candidates that hiring managers visit with, but most interviewers take notes. It would not take much to share those in an email.

like

That's fair for the early flood of applicants. But once someone invests time in a screening or interview round? Sharing your notes would cost almost nothing and mean everything. I think you're right, that's where feedback should start.

If they can automate the selection process they can automate the rejection process. Seems only fair.

I'd agree with this

Simple! The legal ramifications. Hiring managers and recruiters don’t want to tell you something that exposes their biases. They take the easy route and use general terms like “not a culture fit”

like

Short and painfully honest. Culture fit is the ultimate shield. It can hide real feedback, genuine bias, or just a bad vibe. I get why companies protect themselves, but let's not pretend it's about efficiency, it's about liability

Anyone else here realized they have some alcohol moderation issues? I graduated college within the past 1.5 yrs and my friends are still in the heavy weekend drinking phase. I only drink about 2 times a week, but it’s the volume of drinks that’s the issue. I’m not ready to quit - just cut down a lot! Tips/advice appreciated! TIA :)
