If you’re going to take a pay cut to join B4, I just don’t think the one to join is KPMG
I work at KPMG in the US. Deloitte and PWC are both larger and provide slightly higher compensation.
Speaking specifically to our Deal Advisory practice, KPMG has more of a startup feel: smaller yet more agile teams and better/tighter collaboration.
Fwiw, there is mobility between Big 4 firms, so you can always test KPMG, then Deloitte/PWC, and return to KPMG if it better suits your personal goals.
No
No it does not worth it? I agree and the think that the progress and the prestige is playing a role here..how about BCG?
Sir could u help me plz!
Depends on what your goals are mate. I'm in management consulting in the water industry too. Happy to have a chat.
Welcome to Fishbowl. I just "liked" each of your responses. Hopefully this gives tou enough to DM others.
Never join at a paycut
that is true most of the time and depending your next steps and how big of the pay cut
you'd be mad to apply for a role requiring 3-4 YOE when you have 10+ YOE. You should be applying for Senior Manager
No no no. You become AM ~3 years into B4, this would be a huge step down (as evidenced by the salary). B4 also regularly promise early promotions and bonus to entice candidates but neither materialise (speaking from experience).
Absolutely not, it’ll take another 5-7 years for you to reach a position in KPMG that materially influences your career prospects (which is not guaranteed). With that risk runway and assuming your age with 10 YOE, the benefits are very marginal
Every company switch will require around 1-1.5 years to build the social capital / network to progress. Following that, an AM at KPMG is still a fairly junior role where employers don’t really care about that KPMG tag yet for senior industry roles. That’s why i feel it’ll take you another 5-7 years (maybe longer) to reach a position (i.e SM / Director) where industry players will react materially more positively to your already decent place at Mott McDonald.
Don’t expect to get paid more at KPMG though. This means you’re basically only getting a payoff in your early 40s? Are you willing to wait that long? Map that to your personal priorities and you can make a decision

Push for Manager Grade , Big 4 on CV does wonders
They advised that they cannot do Manager grade as the would be looking for Assistant Managers only
Enthusiast
You are going to regret it big time! Don’t do it.
