Get two!
Cats are totally fine with that much alone time!! I would strongly discourage getting a dog, but your cat would be totally fine. Even better though if you got 2 cats (siblings preferrably) and then they would have each other when you're gone
I used to foster cats. There were always bonded pairs that would come to the shelter and it was amazing when they got adopted together. I would highly encourage you to get two cats!
Cats are easy peasy! I’ve definitely left mine for a couple days with plenty of food and water and she does just fine! Definitely get two if you can though, unless you’re like me and happen upon a gold girl who ~hates~ other cats.
As long as there is more than one cat, should be good. You also have the option of hiring a cat sitter or having a friend/family member drop by for an hour or two.
Two cats, especially siblings will be wonderful together. And they will be wonderful entertainment for you! Plus twice the kitties twice the love!
I agree with the earlier comments but when you are there, you need to engage with the cat or cats. They need stimuli from people.
Best idea is to get two preferably bonded siblings so they have each other when youre not home.. where do you live?
Adopted 3 month old twin brother and sister. They love being around us at home, but they are great together. Kittens are super crazy with high energy and destructive. Don't get kittens. Lol. Get some older cats who are bonded. My first cat didn't like other cats at all. I tried to get another one years later and it was failure. So dont think you can add one later. It may or may not work out. They are always together.
Yes, please play with them alot. Also buy houses, window hammocks, lots of toys and balls. They love any type of box to get in to. They need stimulus to keep them happy and healthy. They will be bored without a human for so long.
So I wouldn't suggest getting a kitten because I have one and she requires a lot more attention than my other two that are four years old. She wants to stay up all night playing because I am gone all day. If you are to get an older cat they will be perfectly fine while you are gone and require very little maintenance honestly.
If you are concerned about a long-term commitment to adopting a cat, I recommend fostering. This way you can do a wonderful thing by helping cats in need and fulfill your desire to have a furry companion. I also agree two cats are always best. This way your kitty will have someone to play, cuddle, and hang with while you are at work. They are social creatures and feel loneliness, too. Keep in mind, cats choose you, so you'll know when you've met your purr-fect match. Don't forget to spay/neuter! Wishing you all the best and a very happy holiday season!
