Help me pick a new laptop? I am solo practitioner and a desktop computer for my work; I use the laptop for travel, working in court, etc. using Dropbox to access my files. I do need to be able to use some complex programs like cellebrite which have some minimum requirements. I used to have a touch screen bc my kids were little and used it also for Netflix and Roblox; they still will use it but are older now and probably would be fine without that capability. no Macs please. Thoughts?

For those working in house, how much “from scratch” document drafting are you doing vs. reviewing and revising “outside documents”. For example, if your company wants to enter into a joint venture company with another entity, are you drafting the company agreement “from scratch” or is it based on internal forms? I am a new (lateral) associate at a small firm where everyone currently works from the office. When I started, I wasn’t told specific firm hours. I’ve tried to figure out when to come and go based upon when the partners arrive and leave, but their schedules are very inconsistent. The other associates don’t have helpful guidance for me. Assuming that if I ask the partners they’ll say to use my discretion, what are reasonable hours to keep?

(Small firm, only associate under this partner and have been working at the firm for 2 years). Career Sabbatical?

Can anyone who has taken a career sabbatical to travel/explore other interests share their experience with both leaving their jobs and returning to the legal field?
I really want to live in Asia for a year at least before I have to settle down and start a family. I’m not getting younger but don’t want to be reckless with my career.

Tips on discussing reimbursement for travel expenses during the “interview” process? I was invited to travel to a different state to discuss joining a firm. Should I even bring up the topic of expenses , or just pay my own way?

What do you do about computer problems? It just took me 24 minutes to send a .1 email due to my computer constantly freezing. Is it worth entering that time into non-billable? Or do I just stop whining and work longer to make it up?
