No I’m unapologetically registered as a Democrat voting Trump like any other sane person. She went of the rails the second they took the teleprompter away. We’ll face a likely recession, 80% chance. Plus a war on at least 2 fronts. She can’t think of one thing she’d do differently than Biden was the end of her run for president. All the prediction markets now have her losing and and it’s getting worse the more she talks without a prepared script. She needs to go home for 4 years cleanup California and we’ll give her another shot once Trump cleans up the current mess.
Rising Star
For all of his flaws Trump is a great negotiator. All of his economic policies, pumping oil, tariffs, tax cuts were kept by Biden. Most of the other things like Israel, Iran no longer bankrupt, Russia taking Ukraine, Roe vs Wade all happened while Biden/Harris were asleep at the wheel. 4 years of incompetence. I don’t like a single policy he put out. Big expensive bills that’s translated to nothing in the economy. Easiest decision ever, they are fired!
The two-party system is flawed. Why not go with an independent vote? Could they do any worse?
They will not do better nor worse. Because they will not win.
Oh it is certainly beyond risky and the only lessons that will be taught will be on the voters themselves. A third party candidate will never get enough votes to be a treat so one of the two major parties will win. I hate it but it is better to vote for the lesser evil than throwing your vote away.
People have been saying that since the founding of this country and there has been a handful of serious third party candidates at the presidential level, but it’s just tossing away your vote this November. Ideal scenario for a real third party is for the moderates to abandon their far left and far right flanks and realize that they have much more in common with the other side when you exclude the extremists. Unfortunately, the machine is very old and very well-funded so it’s an uphill battle without a unifying leader to step up.
Please don’t waste your vote on write in, no vote or voting for some random 3rd person. Please do not vote based on gender or race rather, vote for the candidate that has a great track record of making life better for Americans. Vote for the best candidate that has the strength and experience to pull the corruption down. That goes for federal and state decisions.
Voting independent will never be viable so long as we have a first-past-post voting system. We would need to completely revamp our elections to be more like European countries for independent candidates to have any chance, which would require a constitutional amendment (which will never happen since Congress can barely pass legislation and would be voting against their own self-interest). Even then, most other Western countries still have two dominant parties.
I voted for Gary Johnson twice. I was in a safe blue state so I considered myself disenfranchised already wrt the presidential race. Strong performance at the top of the ticket makes down-the-ballot races more feasible for third parties in the future, and those ones are not FPTP.
It basically felt like the most productive thing I could do with my vote. Didn't like Jo as much in 2020, though, so I voted for Joe in that one.
I would vote whatever seems right to you. It isn't about teaching anyone a lesson, it is about having your voice counted. There are lots of different voting strategies and you need to figure out what works with your level of risk aversion. Since votes are private, you can always speak to a certain candidate that aligns more directly with your values and then vote for what you consider a lower risk. Or, you can speak about and vote for the same person. Your voice needs to be counted in the way you want it counted.
Honestly, if you live in CA, OR or WA your vote for President wont matter much anyway. I’m not saying you shouldn’t vote - state and local elections probably matter more in your life - but these are not swing states. The Democrats have already banked these electoral votes. Having said that, I really don’t understand why 48% of the country think a racist, fascist, sex-offending Putin-loving felon who stiffs vendors, stages insurrections, etc etc etc should be President. You wouldnt hire Trump to run a bake sale. Meanwhile, your 401k (hopefully you have one ) has never looked better. I just don’t get it.
