Depends on what type of work you want to do. Lean six sigma, drafting, automation, etc..
look into some ASHRAE certifications. There is a huge need for HVAC engineers.
Like AME1 said, it really depends on what you want to do.
If you want to do design work your could look into CAD certifications like Solidworks CSWA & CSWP or equivalent to get a leg up on your peers. If you’re looking into getting into quality, doing ISO 9001:2015 certifications can be great, or Six Sigma - a good resource that I have heard about is looking through AQS since they are known for industry quality (at least that’s what my quality department says). If you are looking into manufacturing, doing Lean Manufacturing (Six Sigma or other related) is something to look into. If you want to go into something like New Product Development, which is what I do, I would look into NPD certification from societies that are associated with that particular industry sector. You can also look into societies that by being a member and doing workshops could give you a leg up and network connections to leverage. Granted, this is just what I know is out there, and there is a ton of industry specific standards/certifications/societies out there. Narrowing your desired position / industry might help hone in what you can do to get above your peers. Good luck on the search!!
I see hundreds of jobs asking for mechanical engineers with HVAC design experience
