Wow, sorry this happened to you. One company that comes to mind that may fit your interest is Chewy. They do an incredible job in customer service/retention and have cool marketing, too. Give them a look?
Sorry you’re going through this, OP. Shitty people fail upwards and ruin other peoples well being and success, and it’s a shame how often it happens.
Echo the advice to reach out to classmates. Never know when one of them may have a connection or interviewed somewhere other than their current role, and could point you in the right direction.
Also tap into your professors — many marketing and communications academics do consulting work on the side with brands of all sizes, and they may have some great connections in high places.
I’m also happy to chat / DM separately for any additional advice or guidance I can provide. Ping me if it’s of any interest, and good luck navigating away from this terrible manager.
I recently was poached by one of the vendors our company worked with. For months, he tried to recruit me and I had a bad feeling but I eventually let him convince me. From day one he has verbally abused and attacked me. He has threatened my job and told me that I was dumb and lack common sense. I’ve only been with him a week and a half. He tried to fire me on day one for “not looking excited enough”. I am absolutely mortified that I did this to myself and I’m in desperate need of a job. My question is how do I get into the PR/communication field when I am so new to it and really have no experience. I don’t even feel I can count my former role as I didn’t get to do anything related to PR/Comm, despite the title. Because I spent so long in the veterinary field, I am 34 years old and I am having no luck getting a company to give me a chance. How can I get on with the PR agency or in that type of role when it feels like everything is going against me currently? Any advice is appreciated.
Hi! This is awful. I feel so bad that this is happening. You said you recently studied, does your school has a job portal? It might be worth taking a look. Even if it's not literally related, but at this point anything to get you out and going. I would also suggest speaking to your teachers or career coordinator, they might know someone with an opportunity, or they might even have an opportunity themselves. Another option is, do you have a company in mind? Check on their websites, they normally post roles there rather than on linkedin or other platforms because they can post it there for free. And it's easier that way. At last, you can always google "Job Agency". Any job agency might be able to connect you with something related to your career.
Let any and all of your former classmates who are also employed in the field know you are looking. I always sent my friends from school job posts with partners or openings at my company once I knew they were looking. This is a tough situation but work your trusted networks.
