Hi all, I'm wrapping up my PhD while doing a part-time IB internship. I want to ask for my internship to be extended so I can apply to other jobs (mainly consulting which recruits PhDs in late summer) while getting paid, but I'm hesitant because this sends the message "you're my backup" and may kill my chance at a full-time offer.

Does this ask sound appropriate if I want to preserve my chance at a FT offer? Any advice on how to navigate this would be much appreciated.
